For a special treat, we want to introduce you to HMM, the funny, candid, real blogger at Hot Mess Mom.

What was your goal in starting Hot Mess Mom?

I had never read a blog EVER. My life is silly. My friends encouraged me for years to start a blog and write about the ridiculousness that surrounds me. So eventually I did. I didn’t know how or what to do or expect. So, I just did whatever I wanted. I Googled tips and rules for successful blogging and then didn’t follow them. I knew whatever my goal was, I would have to be myself and follow my gut. That’s what I did and what I continue to do. Whether you love or hate HotMessMom.com, it is 1000% authentically me.

What is the number one parenting question you receive?

I don’t get many questions.  The feedback I receive is more of the “thank you for making me feel normal” variety. Life is messy.  Motherhood and marriage are hard. We are imperfect. I embrace the flaws and am honest about the failures and difficulties. I think that is what the readers related to the most.

What has been the biggest surprise of motherhood?

Number Three was our biggest surprise ;) Besides him, I think the part of motherhood that I least expected was the fact that there would be times I would not like my children. Always love, but occasionally dislike. I believe it’s normal, but no one ever talked about it and for me, it was very unexpected and was accompanied by near-crippling guilt. When I finally said it aloud… muttering to my husband or a girlfriend “Oh my God, I hate those little bastards right now.” I felt immediately better – like a poison arrow was removed from my heart. Of course I don’t hate my children, but pretending like I always liked them was exhausting and unhealthy.

Your blog is hilarious. Ever thought of a comedy career?

Ever since college, my friends have told me I should do stand-up.  Who knows?  Maybe someday….  I AM one funny bitch ;)

What is the biggest piece of advice you would give to mothers out there who are overwhelmed by motherhood in general?

Without question, the greatest advice I can give anyone is to take time for yourself!!  It sounds impossible when you are drowning in diapers and feedings and laundry and doctor visits.  “Easy for her to say”…  I felt the same.  I had 3 boys in 3 ½ years, a full-time job, and a husband who travelled ¾ of the year.   It was hard.  It was almost impossible.  But honestly, without taking time for myself, I don’t think my family would have made it intact.  Truly.   15 minutes in a quiet room with a book, a pedicure appointment, wine lunch with a girlfriend, a solo walk around the block… all of these things help.  They do.  However, for me, nothing was a powerful and impactful as taking time for FUN.  Inviting other couples over (with kids if necessary) and having too much wine and playing board games or telling stories, or dancing in the living room.  These are the things that allowed me to stay ME while also being “Mommy.”

Tell us about the Million MILF March.

The Million MILF March is based on the importance of taking time for ourselves and having FUN.  In the one year of hotmessmom.com, I have published 420 posts and received over 3900 comments on the blog and another 10,000+ on Facebook and Twitter. So many of the comments include phrases like “I am so jealous,”  “I want your life,” “You are so fun!”  “I wish you lived by me,” etc., etc.  While this is flattering and very ego-boosting, it really surprised me how many women don’t take time out for fun, don’t put themselves on their To-Do lists, don’t embrace the silly. I am a better mother and a better wife when I take “Me-Time”.

Moms Investing in Laughter and Frivolity.

So, the Million MILF March was born as M.I.L.F. – Moms Investing in Laughter and Frivolity. I invited the women who wrote the comments to put their money where their mouth was and come play. You’re jealous? Come be a part of it! You want my life? Come play with me! You wish I lived next door? Book a room by me at the hotel. And they did. 250 complete strangers descended on New Orleans for no reason other than to have FUN and celebrate themselves.  It was truly a magical weekend.

I wrote my vision for the MMM 9 months prior to the event. This pretty much sums it up.

What is a MILF? {according to me}

We are not your mother’s mother. We have never been to a beauty parlor. We do not have our hair ‘set’. We ROCK 40… We can bring home the bacon and fry in up in a pan. {We may let you forget you’re a man because we are really focused on that bacon} We wear yoga pants and 5 inch heels, although never at the same time. We range in size from 2- 22. We range in age from 30-60. We may or may not have children. We may or may not be married. Hell, we may or may not be women.

We are living in a busy crazy financially burdened time, but realize the importance of taking time out for FUN. We have jobs, kids, pets, charities, spouses, parents, friends, and countless other responsibilities that we do gladly and we do well. We are imperfect. We embrace our flaws. We are hot messes and we are proud of it.

And for this Million Milf March~ we celebrate OURSELVES. We celebrate our wrinkles and muffin tops. We will be selfish. We will be gluttonous. We will be kid-free! We will eat and drink and be merry. We will not be judged. We will raise money for a good cause. We will march. {and by ‘march’ we mean ‘stroll from bar to bar’}

We are MILFs.

When is the next Million MILF March, and how can MILFs sign up and march with you?

The next MMM will be in September of 2013. Dates will be confirmed by January 1st.   Anyone interested should “like” the Million MILF March page on Facebook for real-time updates as well as follow www.millionmilfmarch.com  for hotel and registration information.  Please note… the Million MILF March is a pubcrawl.  There is no physical activity…  no marching, no running…  just strolling from bar to bar, dancing, laughing and raising money for charity in the process.

And if any of your readers are on the fence about attending, or think “that sounds fun but I just couldn’t…” this is an email I received a few days after the MMM.  It explains the weekend better than I ever could and makes my eyes wet (what IS that???) every time I read it.
