The Ancient Greeks were into it. The French have coined the household term for it.  Britney sang about it.  The term Ménage à trois is a French term that literally translates into household of three.

More commonly, it is known as a threesome, or sexual arrangement between three people. Three-way sex is more common these days than it is taboo. Although a household of three generally means sharing “chores” equally, if shared between the wrong combination of people, someone will almost surely be left out of the loop.

The Stigma

Of course a sexual act that goes beyond societal norms is stigmatized. Threesomes have occurred more often than the generally public would like to admit. Whether it’s two women sharing a man, two men sharing a woman, or three people of the same sex engaging en coitus, three-way sex is often “that thing people do but never want to admit to.”

I, like most women my age, have known more than a few people who have engaged in sex with multiple partners at one time. To me, it isn’t uncommon, and it is definitely nothing to be ashamed of.

Sharing is Caring

I’ve known plenty of couples – some married – who seek out single women who are their type with whom they want to include in their sex life. In those cases, the partners want to share one another with a luscious, willing outsider. They feel that sharing their partner is an example of showing their partner physical love.

There’s a certain type of relationship between two committed people that allows space, albeit physical, for a third person. Generally, trust, love, and respect for boundaries are established at the inception of the third person being allowed in.

Celebrating Chemistry

Sexual chemistry between two people can be overwhelming, and when a third person is thrown into the mix, it could either be catastrophic or paramount to bliss. A threesome can be described as a celebration of chemistry.

Some consider three way sex to be greedy, and some find it to be impossible. Those who have tried it either love it or hate it, and one really won’t know if they’ll like it unless they give it the good ol’ college try.

Avoiding Jealousy

The conditions in a threesome are perfect for jealousy. I’ve often heard of experiences certain people have had that left them feeling ignored and unworthy because the interaction between the three was unbalanced. Surely in the heat of the moment, a person gravitates toward the one they feel more connected to. This generally leaves one soul lonesome.

If you’re jealous or insecure, three-ways may either make you feel worse, or may change the way you feel about yourself and others. One way to avoid being left out or leaving a person out is for the three to have a discussion beforehand. Rules and regulations, how long and how far they can go with one person. It makes sex more technical, but in this case, I’d recommend it.

Three’s a Party

“Two’s company, three’s a crowd.” I say three’s a party. Why have a person leave a perfectly fun situation? There’s a way to enjoy, or at least learn from a sexual situation such as this one.

If a threesome is something you’re curious about, there’s nothing unusual about exploring the way of fucking. Make sure that it’s with people you trust, but if you’re possessive, you may want to skip the menage a trois altogether.

Are you curious to share? Have you ever experienced a threesome? Did you love/hate it?
